Gachang is a haven for coffee enthusiasts, with its wide array of cafes offering unique blends and brewing techniques. Renowned for its delicious Gachang Jjinppang – steamed buns filled with sweet red bean paste or other tasty fillings – Gachang is a food lover’s paradise. The famous Jjinppang Street, close to the popular Gachang Spa Valley amusement park, has captured the hearts of food enthusiasts nationwide. But Gachang isn’t just about food. Its unique coffee culture, vibrant art galleries, extensive gardens, and cozy rural cafes make Gachang an unmissable destination for cafe hopping. Cafe Juri 485 Cafe Juri 485 is one of the most recent cafes in Gachang. It boasts expansive mountain views and has one of the most expansive park-like settings in the entire Daegu area. The beauty of the location is so striking and mesmerizing that one visit is rarely enough. I returned a few days during the day to fully absorb the breathtaking views I couldn’t discern in the darkness. Shinhan Debit Card: The Best Solution for Foreigners In addition to the standard indoor seating, Cafe Juri 485 offers a plethora of outside seating options, some even set up in quirky, transparent heated bubbles that add a fun twist to your café experience. Fast forward a few months later to warmer weather and the seating doubles. Now, a rooftop area and many tables are set up in the park. This is the ideal spot to enjoy my iced American while watching my favorite YouTube videos and basking in the glow of the sun. The stunning backdrop of Gachang’s mountains serves as a real-time screensaver. One of my favorite happy accidents was stumbling into the Temple of Bright Virtue. It’s absolutely beautiful and a must-visit on your Gachang Cafe Hopping Adventure. We decided to have a quick bite at the cafe section before continuing our exploration of various cafes in Gachang. The breathtaking mountain views and the charming little garden that enhances its overall appeal. The menu offers a remarkable variety of teas, ade, coffees, and more. The Jeju Matcha Latte, Sweet Potato Latte, and Maple Cinnamon Coffee particularly caught our attention. I couldn’t resist trying the iced Maple Cinnamon Coffee. Despite the limited selection of desserts, which included waffles, ice cream, cheesecake, and similar treats, it didn’t bother us since our plan for the day involved exploring several other cafes. Unfortunately, the first cafe we visited didn’t meet our expectations. However, luck was on our side. We backtracked and stumbled by Hyang Gallery & Cafe nearby. Intrigued by its exterior, we decided to give it a try. Little did we know, it turned out to be just what we were looking for. We were tired of the fancy theme cafes that we often visit. And longed for a more quaint and homey experience. That’s when we discovered Hyang Gallery & Cafe. As we entered, our attention was immediately captivated by the cozy gallery atmosphere, adorned with colorful paintings of landscapes and portraits, as well as statues and figurines. The walls, made of brick and plaster, were covered with framed pictures, iron clocks, and an array of charming knick-knacks. The air was filled with fragrances from potted flowers, freshly brewed coffee, and tempting sweet cakes. Moreover, the owner herself, Park Sin Hyang, warmly greeted us. Gallery-style Cafes in Gachang Park Sin Hyang, originally from Seoul, and I shared a passion for European travel. She opened the cafe three years ago. Her love for creating a space where visitors could feel at home and engage in conversations led her to open the cafe. Despite the fact she didn’t speak English, we had a lively conversation. We utilized Google Translate to communicate and connect her. Over cups of delicious coffee, including refreshing iced Americanos. Park Sin Hyang also gave us complimentary plums and pretzels. And we exchanged stories and discovered our shared love for Plitvice Lakes in Croatia. It was a delightful experience to connect with someone from a different culture, thanks to the aid of technology. We spent a wonderful afternoon at Hyang Gallery & Cafe. I appreciated the local artwork displayed in the gallery inside and the lovely gardens outside. We left with a sense of fulfillment. And we plan to return to continue the conversation with Park Sin Hyang. And if you’re still looking for more cafes, click HERE for more Daegu cafes. As I ventured further, I came across a clearing a large parking lot and a sign indicating a cafe. Curiosity piqued, I followed the sound of music and discovered the Daesae Ranch Cafe, an abandoned horse farm turned milk-themed haven. The buildings, resembling milk cartons and adorned with cowhide-inspired paintings, surrounded a picturesque pond that reflected the golden hour sunsets. Eager to explore, I grabbed a cup of coffee and headed to the tranquil lakeside. The rest of the grounds, though partially abandoned, held hidden treasures. The renovated horse stable, now transformed into a unique seating area with low mahogany benches, provided ample space for visitors to relax. I couldn’t resist twirling down the aisle, captivated by the overhead tube lights and the satisfying sound of crushed rock beneath my feet. The Daesae Ranch Cafe was not only a delightful spot to unwind but also offered toys like kites for sale, making it an ideal destination for families with playful children. This unexpected find reminded me of the joy in embracing serendipitous experiences while traveling. Without rigid itineraries, I could stumble upon hidden gems like the Daesae Ranch Cafe, where the fusion of an abandoned horse farm, milk-themed decor, and a tranquil lakeside setting created a memorable and enchanting atmosphere. Steven and I decided to treat ourselves to a fancy tea house date, where we indulged in high-quality teas and delectable handmade treats. The experience came at a cost of around $40, but it was worth it. Steven chose a handpicked green tea while I opted for the delicate flavors of white tea. To complement our tea, we shared two delightful cookies filled with vanilla and green tea cream. The attention to detail was evident as the tea leaves provided us with three servings. For my final serving, I decided to try some rose flowers, adding a touch of floral elegance to my tea experience. Gachang Tea House Take a break and find solace in Gachang, where you can learn to pour tea at Au Fond du Bois Cafe. We were greeted with written and oral instructions that came along with our tea. One of the notable instructions was to refrain from loud talking, which amused us. The tea house staff was vigilant in ensuring that the serene ambiance was maintained, promptly scolding anyone who violated the rules. The tea house was situated next to the upscale au fond du Bois restaurant, which we had also enjoyed on a previous occasion. Both cafes sit within a breathtaking woodland of Gachang. The rustling sound of a waterfall and stream below complemented the stunning flora. The tea house provided us with an exquisite experience that extended beyond the tea itself. Every detail was designed to create a memorable and refined tea-drinking experience. The cafe sits within the enchanting wood-line, with the soothing sounds of nature and vibrant autumn colors. It was a delightful retreat where we could savor the flavors, unwind, and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings.
