An Honest Look Back
I’m sharing this now because stays don’t stay the same, even when our memories do. This is not a typical review; it’s a look at how a hotel can change over time—and how reviews help us see that change before we book. A hotel can shift in ways that surprise you, and reviews often reveal those changes long before you arrive. This is one of those places that reminds me why I always read the most recent feedback, no matter how familiar a hotel once felt.

Why This Stay Stayed With Me
I remember walking into our room on that first trip to Thailand and seeing the swans on the bed with a simple message folded into the sheets. It marked our anniversary in a quiet, memorable way. The hotel felt new then. The room looked fresh, the colors felt bright, and the staff moved with the focus you expect at the start of something promising.

Hotel Over Time
According to some reviews, the hotel no longer matches the experience we had during our visit. Neither do I, lol. All the pictures are from our stay many, many years ago, and I too have changed in ways that only time can explain. Buildings age, and upkeep has to keep up with that reality. In this case, it hasn’t.
After reading recent reviews, many travelers now consider the stay closer to a 3-star experience than the 5-star label the property still uses. The biggest shift, according to recent guests, is the inconsistency between the photos and the rooms they checked into. The structure is the same, but the details—service, room condition, and amenities—show their age far more than the older photos online.
It’s disappointing to see the rating drop to 5.8 on Booking.com (7.7 on Trip.com and Agoda) because I remember it being much higher when we stayed there ten years ago. Honestly, I use Booking.com for hotels in the west, but refer to Agoda and Trip.com when booking hotels in Asia.
Even so, several things still work well today. Many travelers continue to praise the large rooms, the quieter south end of Patong, and the pool that still feels refreshing in the heat. These strengths don’t erase the challenges, but they matter when comparing this property to others in the same price range. Phuket continues to grow, and older hotels must work harder to keep up with rising expectations.
Rechargeable 1X/3X Double Sided Pocket Mirror
This compact mirror gives me a clear, honest view of my face in any light because it offers three daylight settings that show true color. The soft glow comes from eight bright LED chips powered by a 400 mAh battery that lasts long enough for a full day of touch-ups. I use the 1X side for my whole face and the 3X side when I need a close look at my brows or lashes. The magnetic hinge opens and closes with a simple pull, and the mirror is so small it slips into any pocket or handbag without adding weight or bulk.

Location and Access
The hotel is located in South Patong, away from the busiest streets but still within walking distance of Patong Beach. Malin Plaza provides easy access to food stalls. Shops and markets are close enough for daily errands. Many travelers call taxis for better restaurants, bars, and cafes, especially at night. The location works well for anyone who wants calmer evenings with the option to reach the busier areas when needed.
Patong looks different now than it did on our first visit. The nightlife, traffic, and constant movement keep expanding, and older hotels feel that pressure more than anyone admits.

Rooms and Spaces
Most travelers want clean rooms, working bathrooms, comfortable beds, and shared spaces that feel usable. The rooms here are large and easy to settle into. The layouts are simple, the natural light feels good, and housekeeping stays consistent. Still, guests note issues that affect comfort: broken fixtures, mold in the showers, slow drainage, missing hooks, and noise from nearby rooms. Renovations are underway, and they are overdue.
The pool and common areas remain some of the strongest features of the hotel. The pool offers relief in the heat, and the layout still feels inviting. Seating fills quickly during busy hours. The pool bar receives mixed feedback—some guests experienced friendly service, while others waited longer than expected or felt the prices didn’t reflect the current condition of the hotel.

Breakfast and Dining
I remember the breakfast being good. One detail that stood out was the kimchi. Not because it was part of the menu, but because there was a large group of Koreans, and they always travel with kimchi. Today, according to reviews, breakfast reflects the wider challenges found across the property. Many travelers describe crowded mornings, slow refills, limited variety, and tables that need quicker cleaning. Some families reported extra charges for children even when breakfast should have been included. A few guests enjoyed the meal, but many now choose to eat elsewhere after the first morning.

Care and Condition
Reviews show that the staff still put effort into many areas, especially housekeeping and parts of the food and beverage team. Reception feels inconsistent at times, with occasional missed details or slow follow-up on concerns. Shared spaces show wear. Bathrooms feel dated. Maintenance leans toward quick fixes instead of long-term solutions. The building needs deeper attention, and the strain shows in both service and upkeep.
LEADO Candle, She’s Planning Another Trip
This candle is the ultimate gift for any travel enthusiast! Featuring the witty message “Smells like she’s planning another trip,” it’s perfect for birthdays, holidays, or just because. Infused with a soothing lavender scent, it creates a calming atmosphere that melts away stress while sparking wanderlust. Made from natural wax and essential oils, it burns cleanly for up to 50 hours, offering long-lasting relaxation and a thoughtful reminder of adventure.

Fit for Travelers
Families who want large rooms may find this hotel practical. Travelers who book at a fair rate and plan to spend most of their time exploring Phuket may also feel comfortable. The quieter location works well for guests who want calm nights.
Book this hotel if you prioritize large rooms, a calmer part of Patong, and a rate that reflects age rather than luxury.
Skip it if breakfast matters, if you expect updated amenities, or if service is your top priority. There are so many places to eat and drink around the corner that you will not feel limited.

Tips When Reading Reviews
Here are a few things I look for when I evaluate a hotel. I want a clear picture before I book anything, so I read reviews with purpose. I look for signs of consistency, recent changes, and the kind of experience travelers describe over time. I read with an open mind but also with caution, because reviews often reveal the rhythm of a property long before you arrive.
Tell me what you think. Knowing what I’ve shared and what guests report now, would you book a stay at Fishermen’s Harbour Urban Resort?
Tips When Reading Reviews
- Filter reviews by traveler type because each group notices different things.
- Read the most recent 20–40 reviews because they reflect the current state of the hotel.
- Look for repeating themes to separate patterns from one-off complaints.
- Compare reviews across several platforms to spot consistent issues.
- Pay attention to management responses because they reveal accountability and effort.
