I have to admit it. I have ulterior motives for suggesting cherry blossom vantage points away from Suseong Lake now that I live here. There are cherry blossoms all over Daegu, but many people flock to popular spots like Duryu Park, Suseong Lake, and Apsan Mountain because they are well-known. But there are so many overlooked places to watch nature unfold this spring. We stumbled upon the Uksucheon Promenade just as the cherry blossoms reached full bloom. Uksucheon Promenade is one hidden spot you should check out before the blossoms fade.

Hidden Gem – Uksucheon Promenade
Learning the Language is Paying Off
Do you want to know where you can see the cherry blossoms in Daegu that many locals don’t even know about? After stumbling across a relatively unknown Korean YouTube video, I discovered this magical promenade dripping in pink cherry blossoms and yellow. As I watched it, I remember wishing it were in Daegu.
So imagine my surprise when I heard someone mention Suseong-gu, Daegu, and hidden cherry blossoms in the same breath. I’ve been studying Korean for a few weeks now, and part of that routine includes listening to YouTube videos. Cherry blossoms lined both sides of the Uksucheon Promenade, creating a dreamy spring escape.

Where is Uksucheon Promenade
Google Uksucheon Promenade, and you’ll see some vague references to it, but nothing that identifies it as the hidden gem it is. The path is beneath Deokwon High School in the Suseong-gu district of Daegu.
This school is located a few steps from the peaceful Uksucheon Stream, where cherry blossoms and bright yellow forsythia bloom beautifully in spring. There are parking lots on both ends of the walkway, and there are plenty of them. It’s free and open to the public all day long.

What to Expect
The yellow flowers are forsythia. Forsythia is one of the first plants to bloom in early spring, known for its bright yellow flowers along arching branches. It’s common in Korea, especially near streams, park paths, and roadsides. These bushes often bloom at the same time as cherry blossoms, creating a striking contrast like the one in your photo.
We parked in the lot closest to the school. Follow the tree-lined fence to the edge of the lot, where you’ll find a dirt path leading to the promenade. Once on the boardwalk, stop and take it all in. The babbling stream, chirping birds, and swaying branches soon drown out the noise from the schoolyard above.
Take a right and meander until you find yourself under the bridge. You might want to visit the top for an aerial view before you leave. Touch the cool stone walls draped in weeping cherry blossoms. Watch bursts of forsythia petals dance in the breeze.
The same wind carries the sweet scent of spring. Petals flutter gently to the ground around you.
There are no crowds. The other nature lovers were older, enjoying the moment instead of photographing it. A few people took pictures, but the atmosphere was calm—a welcome break from the chaos at Suseong Lake.

When to Visit the Uksucheon Promenade
You don’t need to worry about beating the crowds. Very few people know about the promenade right now, but that won’t last. The best time to visit is when the sun is low in the sky. I suggest early morning or late afternoon.
You don’t have to wait for spring. Uksucheon Promenade is beautiful all year. Visit again for the azaleas, which bloom in vivid pinks and purples from late March to early April.
