How to Plan Your Three Day Halong Bay Cruise: Complete Itinerary Overview Posted on January 4, 2025January 22, 2025 Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... When planning our Halong Bay cruise adventure, I spent hours researching cruise operators. I wanted something comfortable, stylish, and worth the splurge. Signature Cruises stood out immediately. Their light and airy decor felt inviting, almost like stepping into a floating boutique hotel. Reviews promised excellent food and attentive service—exactly what we were looking for. Arrival and First Impressions The weather didn’t start off in our favor. Rain greeted us as soon as we boarded. I worried it might last the entire day. Thankfully, it only stuck around for a couple of hours, leaving behind sunshine so bright we spent the rest of the trip hiding from its glare. The three-hour drive from Hanoi to Halong Bay passed quickly, thanks to the excitement buzzing between Steven and me. We arranged transportation through the cruise line for $30 each, which made the trip hassle-free. Arriving at the terminal, I was greeted by the salty sea breeze and the sight of traditional junk boats docked against the emerald water. It felt like stepping into another world, where time slowed down, and everything centered on the bay. Signature Cruises offers a $15 service to provide the required visa approval letter. Note that the visa fee has increased to $135 for American passport holders as of September 2016. Your passport will be valid for one year instead of single entry, which is a nice bonus. For convenience, I recommend applying for your visa online at Vietnam E-Visa. Bring your letter, passport, passport photo, and cash for processing at the airport. The Senior Suite: A Floating Retreat Signature Cruises offers five cabin categories to suit every need. We chose the Senior Suite, which cost less than family-sized rooms but had everything we needed. The suite included a double bed, a flat-screen TV and DVD player, a private balcony, and an ensuite bathroom with a jetted tub. The bright, modern decor was refreshing compared to the darker designs I saw on other boats. While Wi-Fi was available in public areas, it was spotty at best. That was fine by me—I preferred spending mornings on our balcony with a hot cup of tea, listening to the gentle waves lap against the boat. Signature Cruise Halong Bay Dining Room Dining on the Junk Boat Our first meal onboard didn’t disappoint. We climbed to the top deck for lunch, where the dining room was as bright and airy as our suite. Lunch started with a flavorful chicken dish, followed by BBQ fish that was grilled to perfection. Dessert was a plate of fresh exotic fruits and a light cake that tasted like sunshine. The dining experience felt both elegant and relaxed. I ordered a bottle of chilled white wine, which they kept fresh until I finished it the next day. Evenings brought happy hour deals (buy one, get one free), and one night, the crew brought out a karaoke machine. We sang until our voices cracked, surrounded by the laughter of fellow passengers. Exploring the Decks and Outdoor Spaces The decks on the junk boat offered something for every mood. The top deck was perfect for sunrise tai chi sessions, where the golden morning light reflected off the bay. The side deck provided quieter moments, where I watched limestone cliffs drift by, their silhouettes glowing in the afternoon sun. Private balconies attached to each suite were the ideal spot for a pre-dinner drink or simply soaking in the peaceful views. The combination of fresh air, calm waters, and stunning scenery made every moment feel like a postcard. Signature Cruises Itinerary The itineraries are based on the length of stay. This was our itinerary for a three-day/ two-night stay, which included a fantastic day we didn’t have to share with anyone but the cruise staff. The one thing I want to leave you with is that no matter what junk boat line you decide to go with, choose the three-day/2-night option. All the other options are excellent but rushed. The beauty of being on the bay has time to sit back and enjoy it by doing absolutely nothing at all. A visit to a real pearl farm where we learned how to grow, harvest, and sell pearls Day 1 ArrivalLunchTour Fishing Village and Pearl FarmDinnerMake Spring Rolls We enjoyed a great private kayak tour around one of the more massive limestone formations with crew members. Day 2 BreakfastFull-Day on Private Boat Kayak/ SwimmingLunch CruiseDinnerMake Spring Rolls The water is deceptively clear and very salty, so floating is a breeze. Day 3 BreakfastTour of Sung Sot CaveDeparture Our cruise ended with a brief climb and tour of Sung Sot (Surprise) caves. Final Thoughts I highly recommend Signature Cruise Halong Bay for its exceptional service, delicious food, and beautifully designed staterooms. While this stunning area is not immune to natural disasters, it has shown remarkable resilience. Following Typhoon Yagi in September 2024, Ha Long Bay quickly reopened to tourists after extensive cleanup efforts by local authorities to ensure safety and restore the environment. The Signature Cruise staff was incredibly responsive throughout the booking process and provided an unforgettable 3-day, 2-night experience. Highlights included a private kayaking and lunch tour, which perfectly showcased the bay’s serene beauty. From the thoughtfully prepared meals to the comfortable accommodations, every detail made this journey truly top-notch. Like it. Pin it. Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! I would have to agree with you on the furniture choice. The lighter furniture makes the room brighter. This cruise ship looks nice, most that i see look like a hotel room inside the staterooms. Reply
Wow its a wonderful place and it seems you had a wonderful time. I love seafood and i am planning to visit Bay area after reading your post. Reply
