Amana Colonies: A Glimpse into History
The Amana Colonies began in 1855 because German immigrants wanted a self-sufficient, spiritual community. Today, the seven villages—Amana, East Amana, West Amana, South Amana, High Amana, Middle Amana, and Homestead—still reflect that heritage. Known for their traditional German crafts, unique shops, and historical landmarks, the Colonies provide an immersive cultural experience that draws visitors year-round, especially during events like Winterfest.
Although winter can feel long and dull, Winterfest 2025 offers a warm and lively escape. In effect, every event reveals the soul of the Amana Colonies.
