At about $60, Fah Lanna is way more expensive than your typical Thai Spa. And while it’s not true that you always pay for what you get. Fah Lanna is the exception.
It’s the perfect sanctuary for relaxation amidst the historic charm of Chiang Mai’s Old Town. The spa offers many traditional Thai and Northern Thai (Lanna) treatments. These treatments often incorporate techniques like Thai massage, herbal compress, and aromatherapy. Some popular services include traditional Thai massage, hot oil, herbal steam, body scrubs, and facials. They are known for their expertise in conventional therapies, and many visitors appreciate the authentic experience.
The moment I stepped inside, a lush jungle-themed ambiance greeted me. The vibrant greenery and soft, warm lighting created a visually soothing atmosphere. Smooth melodies and gentle waterfalls provided the perfect soundtrack.
Booking My Serene Escape at Fah Lanna Spa
When I booked my spa retreat at Fah Lanna Spa, I was required to make a 500 Baht reservation deposit. This deposit ensured that my preferred time slot was secured. I opted for a 90-minute aromatherapy massage scheduled for the following evening. As I explored the list of services, a friendly attendant offered me a refreshing beverage and a cool washcloth infused with a pleasant fragrance to help me cool down.
Following their recommendation, I arrived 15 minutes ahead of my scheduled appointment. They promptly handed me a questionnaire, which included specific instructions for my masseuse. I clarified that I preferred a medium-strength massage and kindly asked her to pay extra attention to my hip flexors, lower back, and feet.
Furthermore, I had the opportunity to select the aromatherapy oil for my massage. I chose Inthanon, a blend of oils crafted to infuse me with energy. What makes it even more intriguing is that it draws inspiration from the highest mountain in Thailand—Doi Inthanon—a place I had just visited earlier in the day.
An Oasis of Comfort and Serenity at Fah Lanna Spa
The massage room was a vision of beauty, adorned with two inviting massage beds, soft, ambient lighting, and the soothing strains of calming music in the background. The attention to detail was impeccable. Moreover, within the room was a fully equipped bathroom with a refreshing rain shower and a relaxing tub, adding an extra layer of comfort to the experience.
For added convenience, a locker was also provided where I could securely store my belongings, including my phone. Leaving my phone behind was a conscious decision, ensuring I could fully immerse myself in the serene ambiance and escape any potential distractions.
As I prepared for the massage, the therapist handed me a generously sized cloth adorned with traditional colors and intricate designs. This colorful fabric added a touch of authenticity to the experience. In addition, I was provided with the necessary black undergarments to ensure my comfort and modesty throughout the session. These “panties” are usually skimpy, not made for someone with hips and booty. But these were different. They were very comfortable.
From Ritual to Relaxation: My Sensory Journey at Fah Lanna Spa
Before the massage began, the masseuse attended a traditional Thai ritual by delicately washing my feet in a large bowl filled with vibrant flowers. This ritual not only cleansed my feet but also symbolized the cleansing of the day’s stresses, setting the stage for a truly rejuvenating and authentic Thai massage experience. With this thoughtful attention to detail, Fah Lanna Spa nurtured and pampered every sense, creating an environment.
My sense of touch took center stage inside the beautifully decorated massage room. The therapist’s skilled hands worked their magic, relieving stress and tension. It was a tactile journey of relaxation.
