The Best Guide to Cafes in Gachang South Korea Posted on November 12, 2023September 12, 2024 Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... Most Instagrammable Cafes in Gachang Cafe hopping in Gachang, just outside Daegu, amid the stunning countryside, is a delightful experience. Most of these cafes are family-owned, offering excellent coffee and a tempting array of brunch options that will satisfy your taste buds. As we explored this serene countryside, we encountered several hidden gems, each with unique charm. From cozy, rustic interiors to outdoor seating with scenic views, and great BBQ, these cafes provide the perfect setting to relax and enjoy freshly brewed coffee and sweet treats alone or with friends. And yes– they do put corn in the coleslaw, but it wasn’t bad, just unnecessary. There is free sticky rice and a hearty beef and pork Korean soup too. Lots of outdoor covered and uncovered seating and they play good music too.We really appreciated that the owner substituted another portion of beef for the pork on the platter without an additional cost. This cafe doubles as a captivating gallery filled with art and sculptures, surrounded by a stunning garden with mountain views. What’s unique is that buying coffee grants you free access to the gallery, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, there’s limited seating and slightly higher coffee prices. While it may be pricier, it’s a remarkable place that blends art and coffee, and I hope more people visit and support it as the pandemic situation improves. The first time I went was at night, and the view wasn’t clear. Since it was winter, I knew I had to go back. Juri 485 is a large cafe in a valley that gives you great views of the mountains all around — it was so beautiful that we went back during the day to enjoy it. They have a lot of outdoor seating. Some of the seating is near a babbling brook and a small waterfall. There is a large rooftop with amazing views of the cafe grounds and beyond. Walk past the cafe to the river and a large campground. The cafe has a big parking lot with different levels. Just follow the arrows because it’s a one-way parking lot. They also have a zone for kids; you can bring your pets. The cafe is split into two buildings with a narrow, two-story courtyard in between. You can order at the counter, get coffee, and see the desserts in the smaller building. The other building is where you sit. Downstairs, they have a big door that opens up when the weather is good. To get to the second floor, you can take the outside staircase or, my favorite, a spiral staircase covered in green vines. Spiral Staircase They also have a big rooftop with lovely views, but on a good day, my favorite spot is the lawn. It’s huge. I like the patio seating under umbrellas and the sound of the creek and waterfall. My only problem is that they don’t have an extensive choice of desserts. But their coffee is delicious and makes up for it. This dish, known as Dak Galbi, is a local favorite for good reason – it’s incredibly delicious. You can request a milder version if you’re not a fan of spice, but I’d recommend trying it with a bit of a kick first; it tends to taste better that way. However, tread carefully with the spice level – three peppers should be your maximum. Any more, and you might be in for a fiery experience. However, if it gets too intense, don’t reach for water. Instead, ask for some mayo on the side and stir it into the Dak Galbi; it helps bring the heat down to a more manageable level. We went for the three-pepper option one night, and after a few bites, we couldn’t resist the mayo rescue. No shame in that! And don’t worry, you won’t really taste the mayo – I had my doubts too. Before you know it, the servers will add rice and seaweed to the pot, transforming it into a delightful fried rice version. By the way, Gachang Chicken & Ribs is renowned for its galbi, and I’ve heard it’s a must-visit spot. Plus, it’s conveniently located next to an equally delicious Udon Noodle Restaurant, which isn’t much of a surprise considering the many delectable cafes and restaurants in that area, just on the outskirts of Suseong-gu. We discovered that our friend used to own L’Usine Cafe, and it was a delightful revelation. This café is a true gem. They serve exceptional coffee, and if you’re fortunate, you can snag a spot on their charming rooftop seating area. What’s more, it’s conveniently located not too far from Charcoal Wood Barbecue, another spot worth exploring. Inside, the café exudes a charming ambiance with cozy nooks that invite you to settle in comfortably. It’s the perfect place to savor a cup of coffee, indulge in delectable cakes and pastries, all while taking in the scenic countryside views. Let me tell you, on a gorgeous early fall day like today, the view from this café is absolutely breathtaking in every direction you look. It’s got a cool train theme. But the best part is the fantastic view of the nearby mountains, farmland, and a lovely park. The café has two floors, each with a different vibe. The first floor has a garden theme, which makes it super relaxing, and there’s even a rooftop seating area for those who want to enjoy the view to the fullest. But what really makes On the Rails special is the way they serve food and drinks. Instead of the usual waiter, your order arrives at your table via a mini train terminal on the second floor, which is a fun touch that both kids and adults can enjoy. Or you can watch from afar in the kids free zone above the track. Just a heads up, though – it can get pretty crowded on weekends, so if you want a more laid-back experience and to savor their surprisingly good drinks, it’s best to visit during the weekdays. On the Rail 온더레일52, Gachang-ro 93-gil, Gachang-myeon, Dalseong-gun, Daegu https://kko.to/jQGOiYAx5Z Btree Cafe Btree is actually a Korean restaurant and a cafe (in two separate buildings). We visited the garden cafe with another awesome view of the mountains and several sweet gardens indoor and indoor seating, and fountain with a koi pond, tons of beautiful flowers and gorgeous carved wood seating. I highly suggest you save this one for the spring season. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you. They have an exceptional tea, ade, and coffee menu including: Jeju Matcha Latte, Sweet Potato Latte, and Maple Cinnamon Coffee (my choice, iced of course), but a limited dessert selection, waffles, ice cream, cheese cake, etc. which was perfect, since we were cafe hopping today.
