This South African restaurant, founded by a U.S. service member, brings the rich flavors of home cooking to South Korea. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm, welcoming atmosphere filled with the enticing aroma of traditional South African barbecue. The restaurant buzzes with energy, filled with guests from all over the world. The owner, prior military, and his staff create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making every visit special. I can’t wait to return. Additionally, dark woods dominate the space, lending a warm and earthy feel that echoes the landscapes of Africa. Furthermore, animal prints add a touch of the wild, with patterns inspired by zebras, leopards, and other iconic creatures of the continent. Moreover, these prints adorn cushions, wall art, and even some of the upholstery, creating a lively yet sophisticated environment. Intricately carved wooden masks and sculptures, often depicting traditional African symbols and figures, are strategically placed around the restaurant, offering glimpses into the rich cultural heritage. Horns and other natural elements are used as decorative pieces, further enhancing the connection to South African roots. Textiles in vibrant, earthy colors, and bold geometric patterns, reminiscent of African tribal designs, are incorporated into the décor, adding layers of texture and interest. Together, these elements create a space that feels both exotic and familiar, inviting diners to immerse themselves in a South African dining experience. Enjoying South African Food in Pyeongtaek Their popular dishes include lamb chops, homemade sausages like Boerewors, and freshly-baked meat pies. The story of Braai Republic South African Restaurant began in 2006 when two rugby mates in Seoul started making biltong and boerewors. Their venture grew from food festivals to opening their first restaurant in Itaewon in 2011. Because of this, the menu is full of hearty dishes like lamb chops, Boerewors sausages, and meat pies. Braai Republic offers a comforting taste of South Africa that stands out locally. Every visit is a memorable food journey with vibrant flavors and a unique atmosphere. We loved the lamb pie and piri piri chicken sandwich. Both were tasty and showed the restaurant’s commitment to real South African food. Expanding Horizons at Braai Republic South African Restaurant Since then, Braai Republic Food Co., Ltd. has been a beloved spot in Seoul, serving traditional South African barbecue, known as “braai.” This barbecue experience brings people together, celebrating food and culture. Because of this, the popularity of their lamb chops, sausages, and meat pies led to the opening of a branch in Pyeongtaek in 2015, with an expanded menu featuring peri-peri chicken and Gatsby sandwiches. They even sponsored a cricket team, the Braai Brasse, adding fun to their culinary journey. In 2018, Kim Dae-myung, their head chef from 2012 to 2015, returned from culinary studies in Cape Town, bringing new ideas to the table. In April 2019, Braai Republic expanded with the Pie Republic in Hongdae. As a result, with locations in Pyeongtaek, Itaewon, and Hongdae, Braai Republic South African Restaurant continues to deliver the authentic South African braai experience to everyone who walks through their doors.
