Mansion 5 Brunch Cafe

I’m going to start the list with an old favorite. Lucky us, now there are two Mansion 5 brunch cafes in Daegu. Mansion 5 in Suseong, means we don’t have to go downtown anymore for Sunday Brunch. The brunch cafe in Suseong is much more spacious inside and has high ceilings and a retractable ceiling awning. And yes, it offers the same quality brunch as the original. The low ratings have nothing to do with the food or the service.

Unfortunately, the parking sucks. The lot is too small and weirdly shaped for the volume of visitors to this popular Daegu brunch cafe.

I wish it was bigger and laid out better. But several parking attendants keep it as orderly as possible. You might wanna avoid Sunday between 10 and 2 p.m. I’m not sure if foreigners know about the newest location because we were the only ones there. We enjoyed the hot beef pot pie (yummy crust too), Mediterranean-style focaccia, and eggs sans bacon served with sautéed asparagus and mushrooms.

Junbro Cafe

I decided to take my English class to a new brunch cafe in Suseong called Junebro. It’s located on the second floor with a terrace.

Although it doesn’t have a view of the lake, the interior is soothing, decorated in earth tones (grey, sage, white & beige) to blend in with the nature behind it and the huge green plants and trees inside. The menu is excellent– pasta, gnocchi, sandwiches, and beer & cocktails– to the delight of my student, lol. The mushroom basil gnocchi & mojito were tasty. We’re going back again next week to try something else from the menu.

APTM

This week, we’re hanging out at a cool brunch cafe in downtown Daegu called APTM, but many folks call it the Apartment. We got together and ordered four different dishes to share – two were poke bowls, one with salmon and the other with Korean beef; then we also got a dish known as an “egg in hell,” a fancy name for a shakshuka. Lastly, we had a shrimp omelet and a side salad. Everything we tasted was good, and you have to try it out.

The decor in the cafe leans into the Apartment theme. There are various seating areas that all surround a small living room setup. It’s got a cozy and homey vibe, and it’s a great spot for people-watching. You can sit by the window and watch the world go by – people and cars bustling down the busy street underneath. It’s a pretty fun and relaxing experience overall.

Deep Going Brunch Cafe

Deep Going is another downtown Daegu Brunch Cafe. And on Sunday around 11 am it’s a madhouse. I highly recommend you check this one out when the doors open at 8 a.m.– it’s far too busy around noon.

They were so busy they wouldn’t even take our orders for 30 minutes to allow the one cook to catch up. They still allowed us to order drinks (after a bit of pleading).

The brunch cafe is cute, decorated for the holidays (of course), with many seating options and a small patio out back that will be lovely this spring.

There are several non-pork options, including– hotcakes, a chicken taco, roasted duck on mashed potatoes, grilled shrimp oil pasta (more creamy than oily), spicy chicken and vegetable stew– and it was delicious– avoid the mid-day madness. And there is plenty of paid parking next door.

Check out the Ovener down the street or the Black Bear Donut across the street for more coffee and a sweet treat afterward.

Brunch Dalat

Brunch Dalat is a family-friendly brunch cafe in Daegu located at the base of Palgonsan Mountain. I recently visited the beautiful cable car up the summit on a solo outing. Many foreigners know about this restaurant, but I was the only Westerner here from 2:40-4 p.m., which surprised me. The large restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, a-frame seating in the pretty rose garden, and a kid-free upper level.

Brunch Dalat serves ready-to-eat fruit plates, pizzas, sandwiches, desserts, and made-to-order salads, pasta, and other entrees. I ordered the Cajun Chicken salad that tasted more honey mustard than Cajun. It was tasty, nonetheless. In addition, the decor is open and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, and exposed beams and ductwork. Along the windows, rows of dark wood tables, leather seating, and dark grey slate tiles offer a playful contrast against medium blue velour sofas with alternating sage green and pink pillow-back chairs. Upstairs– adult-sized floor pillows tease the younger set, which cannot be enjoyed. The rose garden, two rose tunnels, and a water fountain set the tone outside.

Forum for Communication

Forum for Communication is a brunch cafe in the old part of Jung-gu (downtown) Daegu. However, the narrow streets have character and characters, too. The look they are going for is a boho/ abandoned, renovation in progress, edgy meets library bible study room and secret attic garden. Yup– a lot is going on here, and I loved it.

You order by the kiosk in English. And we ended up sharing a delicious garlic shrimp pasta. We also read a strawberry shortcake in the largest room with pretty stained glass windows and an automated record player ‘spinning’ LPs.
