BBQ at the Forest and Duck Restaurant

bbq duck in Suseong

Having eaten a lot of BBQ myself, I had no idea how popular it is here in Korea. You can find a BBQ joint on every corner, where they grill mouthwatering pork, beef, lamb, and seafood. Just follow the smoke and keep an eye out for the small smoldering piles of bright orange charcoal in front of the restaurants. Since it’s my birthday, I wanted something a bit different. So, we decided to go to Suseong Lake and eat duck at the Forest and Duck Restaurant.

The Forest and Duck is a BBQ restaurant that specializes in duck located on Suseong Lake in Daegu. It has been serving duck to residents of Daegu for more than 10 years. Like most other BBQ restaurants, you can get the meat served in several ways. We ordered a set that included skewered, roasted, and smoked duck. If I had to choose, my favorite was the skewered duck. It was so tender and had just the right amount of fat.

The Menu

The menu is in Korean but has some English descriptions and pictures. We ordered a set for two that ended up being more than enough for the two of us. It included skewered, roasted, and smoked duck, a dozen different sides, and duck (bone) soup. There was also a set that included pork and stewed chicken soup if you’d like to try that.

We ordered a side of rice to eat with the soup for an extra 2,000 Won.

The bone soup was tasty. However, I couldn’t help but think it was a traditional soup from Korean peasant history. The Korean people were a lot poorer and the bones made a vegetable soup a little heartier. I bet every culture has a bone soup somewhere in its history.

The Restaurant

The restaurant sits above the street with a great view of the lake. There is outdoor seating during good weather as well as a second floor that was closed for a private function the night we were there.

The Forest and Duck Restaurant offers a rustic ambiance with its exposed plumbing, stovepipes, and walls covered in honed stone. Moreover, the simple fixtures enhance the overall charm of the establishment. Step into a unique dining experience where the aesthetics perfectly complement the delicious food. Dinner for two was 39,000 Won without the rice and Pepsi I ordered.

Hi Claudia, You should totally check out if you have a Korean BBQ somewhere in your area.

True, it has a lot more fat, makes it more juicy. I don’t like greasy meat either. It was very tender and the four different ways it was sliced and prepared was nice too.

I love how they do it here. Apartments are small and very few have have outside space to BBQ in the traditional methods, so its pretty cool.

It is a pretty place and the duck was delicious. You should see if you have a Korean BBQ nearby. I think you’d enjoy it.
