Discovering a Little Lily Farm in Daegu: Daytripping in South Korea

Dbs at Daegu Lily farm

A Hot August Day at Banyawol Lotus Complex

Today, I reminisced about one of my dearest encounters with a resident here in Daegu. It happened on a scorching late August day when I embarked on a solo trip to the Banyawol Lotus Complex, a lily farm on the city’s outskirts. The sun blazed relentlessly as I set out on this adventure, brimming with curiosity about what awaited me. Little did I know I would discover far more than I had anticipated.

Lily Farm in Daegu–A Hidden Oasis

Upon arriving at the Lily Farm in Daegu, I was met with an unexpected sight of natural beauty. The owners had crafted a serene park that fully immersed visitors in the world of water lilies. A wooden boardwalk meandered through the lush fields, allowing me to get up close and personal with these magnificent aquatic plants. Towering lily pads offered shelter from the relentless afternoon sun, creating a soothing ambiance.

A Heartwarming Encounter

However, the warm welcome extended by one of the owners, Mr. Che (if my memory serves me right), made this trip exceptional. Mr. Che graciously opened his private gardens to me as I explored the Lily Farm. He greeted me with a friendly smile and offered a much-appreciated cold beverage to combat the scorching heat.

His enthusiasm for the lily farm and farming, in general, was evident as he provided an insightful tour, sharing the intricacies of cultivating these delicate blooms. We sat in his man cave, drinking a cold drink from his mini fridge. He told me about his life in the Korean Army and his wife, who passed away years prior. He could not believe I was in my late 50’s. Especially since I was three years older than he was, lol. He told me I was beautiful but never made me feel uncomfortable. He even asked me to bring my husband the next time I visited.

An Unforgettable Experience at Banyawol Lotus Complex

But the surprises didn’t end there. Mr. Che, a hospitable host, decided to show me his favorite fishing spot, a tranquil haven concealed within the farm’s extensive grounds. Here, I had the opportunity to connect with some of his friends, further immersing myself in the local culture and creating lasting memories.

Sunflower season is a little earlier than the lotus flowers. You should visit in early to mid-June to wander through the fields of tall sunflowers located nearby. There are also a lot of yummy fruit trees and big fluffy chrysanthemums in the vicinity as well. As a result, the Banyawol Lotus Complex is full of floral variety all year round.

Practical Information

For those considering visiting this Lily Farm, it’s conveniently located about a 30-minute drive from Daegu. The farm welcomes visitors of all kinds, including families with strollers and pet lovers. The best part? There’s no admission fee, and ample parking is readily available. I suggest you wear a hat with a brim or bring your umbrella. There isn’t much shade at Banyawol Lotus Complex.

However, it’s worth noting I didn’t see anything other than an unmanned coffee house nearby. Therefore, you should probably bring water to stay hydrated during your visit. I think it’s also a nice place to enjoy a light snack. This is an excellent time to get rid of last night’s leftovers.

In conclusion, my trip to Banyawol Lotus Complex on the outskirts of Daegu was a harmonious blend of natural beauty, unexpected encounters, and warm hospitality. It’s a hidden gem providing a distinctive and refreshing experience for those willing to venture beyond the city’s hustle and bustle.
