3 Marriott Hotels Near Rock Island Arsenal

When Steven and I moved to Rock Island Arsenal, we needed temporary lodging. We had 14 days of permissive TDY and decided to try three Marriott hotels. We stayed at Residence Inn Moline, The Current Iowa, and Hotel Blackhawk in Davenport. Each offered something different, from full kitchens to downtown restaurants and historic luxury. As Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite members, we also wanted to compare the benefits. After staying at all three, I had a clear preference. Here is what we liked, what disappointed us, and which hotel I recommend near Rock Island Arsenal.

Residence Inn Quad Cities

The Residence Inn Moline Quad Cities is a good option for an extended stay, especially after a long road trip across the country. Located off John Deere Road on 53rd Street, the hotel offers apartment-style suites with full kitchens, separate living areas, and free Wi-Fi. There is also an indoor pool and fitness center. During our stay, I particularly enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. There were several non-pork options, including spinach soufflé, veggie sausages, and beef burritos. I appreciated having those choices each morning, although the breakfast menu may vary.

The hotel is a convenient base for exploring the Quad Cities. Rock Island Arsenal, the National Cemetery, Fort Armstrong, and several shopping areas are a short drive away. There are also opportunities to hike, cycle, picnic along the Mississippi River, and visit nearby wineries. Inside the hotel, I liked the blue and brown decor in the lobby, especially around the fireplace. The colorful seating areas offered plenty of space to relax outside our room.

I also appreciated the comfortable furniture. I cannot stand sitting in a chair that is designed for a child. The furniture here was substantial, with chairs large enough to sit comfortably. Our suite had fairly basic decor, but it was practical for an extended stay. The kitchen included plates, glasses, pots, and flatware. Small details, like the dish towel and dish detergent, made preparing meals and cleaning up much easier.

Residence Inn Moline — Final Thoughts

Residence Inn Moline is a practical choice for families relocating to Rock Island Arsenal. The full kitchen, complimentary breakfast, and spacious suite made our temporary stay comfortable. I especially appreciated the non-pork breakfast options and having everything needed to prepare meals. Complimentary parking was another advantage, especially for an extended stay.

However, the location was not particularly walkable, and we needed our car for almost everything. The hotel also hosted community events that sometimes created more noise than I appreciated. After five days, we realized we could stay somewhere nicer without spending much more. With ten days remaining before moving into our home, we decided to try two Marriott Autograph Collection hotels in downtown Davenport. I would recommend Residence Inn for families needing a kitchen and more space, especially during a longer relocation.

The Current Iowa

The Current Iowa is a luxury boutique hotel in the Marriott Autograph Collection. It has 78 rooms, including 30 suites, with colorful decor and artwork celebrating Midwestern artists. The hotel has a playful design, including a full-size bull sculpture in the lobby. Our suite was spacious, although the view was disappointing. I also found the dog sculptures in our room a little strange. I still think those dogs might give me nightmares.

Located in downtown Davenport, the hotel is within walking distance of the Mississippi River, Adler Theatre, RiverCenter, and Figge Art Museum. UP Skybar, the rooftop bar overlooking the river, was closed during our visit. It has since reopened. The hotel also has a restaurant, bar, indoor pool, fitness center, and meeting spaces.

The biggest advantage for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum members and above is the second-floor lounge. During our stay, it offered hot snacks, chips, candy, soft drinks, beer, and wine. Alcohol was available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. but had to be consumed inside the lounge. Across the hall, the business center had computers, a printer, and dual monitors. I appreciated having a comfortable place to work outside our suite.

We also received two $10 breakfast coupons daily and complimentary evening cocktails. Breakfast included eggs, toast, hash browns, and a choice of protein. Since I prefer non-pork options, we sometimes paid extra for chicken or steak. The steak was surprisingly good, especially for a hotel breakfast.

The Current Iowa — Final Thoughts

We spent five nights at The Current Iowa, and the Marriott Bonvoy lounge was easily the best part. I enjoyed having snacks and drinks available throughout the day. The business center was another advantage, especially with its dual monitors. We also appreciated the breakfast credits and evening cocktails, which made our stay more enjoyable.

However, our suite had limited storage, and the television lacked premium channels and streaming options. I would have preferred a smart TV for Netflix and YouTube. The room was spacious, but the view was nothing special. Daily parking, currently listed at $22, is another expense to consider during an extended stay.

Despite those drawbacks, I would stay at The Current again. The downtown location made it convenient to explore Davenport without driving everywhere. For Marriott Bonvoy Platinum members and above, the lounge alone makes this hotel worth considering. I especially recommend it for travelers who want modern accommodations, nearby restaurants, and a comfortable place to work.

Hotel Blackhawk

After a multi-million-dollar renovation, the hotel in Davenport, Iowa, may look different. But its historic glamor and thoughtful service remain. The hotel opened in 1915. The historic Hotel Blackhawk Autograph Collection has been the luxury hotel of choice for presidents, movie stars, and athletes. So we are definitely in good company. Hotel Blackhawk is set along the Mississippi River and offers easy access to the Quad Cities. Like its sister hotel, the Current, a block away, it’s within walking distance of the river bike paths, Adler Theatre, and lots of restaurants and cafes.

The Hotel Blackhawk is enormous, with over 10,000 square feet of event space. The stunning two-story lobby, crowned with a beautiful stained glass ceiling, has hosted elegant weddings and receptions. The guest suites are also beautiful, spacious, and luxurious. The rooms are decorated with rich earth tones and modern conveniences, including free Wi-Fi, HD TV, and a spa-like bathroom with a bidet. The basement has a fitness center, indoor pool, and bowling alley, and the Spa, Bix Bistro, or RISE Neighborhood Cafe on the first floor.

Hotel Blackhawk — Final Thoughts

Hotel Blackhawk was my preferred hotel of the three. The historic building, beautiful lobby, spacious rooms, and old-world charm appealed to both Steven and me. During our visit, the hotel was celebrating Customer Appreciation Week. That meant complimentary food and alcohol throughout the week, which was an unexpected bonus. We also enjoyed breakfast credits and complimentary drink coupons during our final five nights in Davenport. The business center even had an interactive map for planning a day around the city.

My biggest complaint was housekeeping. Daily service had to be requested, and even then, it did not always happen. We received compensation a few times because of those problems. Breakfast charges were also inconsistent, with chicken or steak upgrades ranging from $2 to $12. Parking is currently listed at $22 per day, which adds up during an extended stay.

Despite those issues, the customer service was excellent. I enjoyed Hotel Blackhawk slightly more than The Current, even without a Marriott Bonvoy members lounge. The historic atmosphere, comfortable accommodations, and downtown location made it my first choice. I would happily stay here again, although I hope the housekeeping problems have been resolved.
