Guess what? Not too much has changed. I’m still driving to wherever the cutest coffee shops are. Iowa City is about an hour from my house on the Rock Island Arsenal.

Kindred Coffee

Address: 630 Iowa Ave, Iowa City, IA 52240
Phone: (319) 499-1566

Kindred Coffee offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere with a strong community focus. An array of homemade pastries complements their expertly brewed coffee and selection of teas. Great coffee and friendly service! The latte was delicious. The ambiance is cute, with lots of plants throughout. It’s a great spot to hang out, study, or work. Kindred Coffee is dedicated to sourcing its beans ethically, ensuring a great taste in every cup.

The Java House

Address: 211 E Washington St, Iowa City, IA 52240
Phone: (319) 341-0012
Google Maps

The Java House, previously known simply as Java House, is a staple in Iowa City’s coffee scene. This cute coffee shop in the heart of Iowa City is a must-visit. I went on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty busy. My white mocha was delicious, and the menu seemed like there was something for everybody. It’s a real coffee house with individual pour-over brew methods and various other coffee, tea, and unique drink options. They also have fantastic baked goods, sweets, and cute merchandise available. The only negatives are big ones. There is limited parking and the cafe stays busy with University of Iowa students.

Prairie Lights Cafe

Address: 15 S Dubuque St, Iowa City, IA 52240
Phone: (319) 337-2681
Google Maps

This is my favorite place to drink tea and study in Iowa City. They have various loose-leaf teas, each served in a lovely tea set. It provides a calm and pleasant atmosphere, and if you’re lucky, you can grab a window seat overlooking Dubuque Street. Prairie Lights is a genuine bookstore that is great for browsing and lingering over finds with a hot tea. Nestled inside Prairie Lights Bookstore, this cafe is a haven for book and coffee lovers. The intimate setting is perfect for getting lost in a good book while enjoying a finely brewed coffee. They didn’t have a large variety of pastries the day I visited. The guests seemed to be a good mix of old and young coffee drinkers.

The Encounter Cafe

Address: 376 S Clinton St, Iowa City, IA 52240
Phone: (319) 519-6400
Google Maps

The Encounter Cafe stands out for its mission to provide more than just great coffee. This cafe supports community initiatives and offers a welcoming space for everyone. Their menu features locally sourced ingredients, and their coffee is always fresh and flavorful. This is a lovely and spacious location in downtown Iowa City! They offer fresh, organic products grown and raised in Iowa. The waffle was one of the best I’ve had! The decor is charming, and the atmosphere is uplifting, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely coffee break.

Fix! Coffee

Fix! Coffee is a favorite for its minimalist design and top-notch coffee. Located in the heart of Iowa City, this cafe prides itself on its high-quality beans and precise brewing methods. The clean, bright space is great for those looking to focus on work or enjoy a peaceful moment. I enjoyed the lavender matcha latte and raspberry jam scone. Both were delicious! It is such a unique location and great to work in! Their skilled baristas are dedicated to providing a perfect cup every time, making it a standout choice for coffee lovers.

Conclusion

Exploring these coffee shops in Iowa City will satisfy your caffeine cravings and introduce you to new experiences and flavors. Each spot offers a unique vibe and a sense of community, making every visit special. So take a moment to pause, relax, and enjoy this vibrant city’s rich coffee culture.
