The Chimac Festival in Daegu is highly praised as one of Korea’s top 10 festivals. But what exactly is the Chimac Festival, and why does it occur in Daegu instead of Seoul or Busan? Chimac stands for chicken (chi) and mac (beer), a loved combination in South Korea. It’s so well-liked that there are more chicken and beer restaurants in Korea than there are McDonald’s restaurants worldwide, even though McDonald’s has been around since 1955. The Chimac Festival is an annual event in Daegu due to the city’s thriving fried chicken scene. The first Chimak Festival happened in 2013 and quickly became one of Korea’s most popular festivals. Sadly, like many things, it was canceled for three years. Last year, the festival returned to Duryu Park, attracting over a million visitors in five days and featuring 100 chicken and beer vendors. The Daegu Craft Beer Festival at Suseong Lake Delivers This Year’s Festival The opening ceremony started yesterday, July 3, and will continue until Sunday, July 7. Unfortunately, the weather hasn’t been great and will remain challenging. If you’re up for some rain, the festival reopens today at 5 pm (until 11 pm) for chicken and beer. It’s open from 10 am to 11 pm and 10 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Musical shows start at 6 pm with different artists each night. While I’m not into K-pop, there are a bunch of singers, rappers, and DJs. You’re sure to find something you like. And based on previous years, the event ends on Sunday at 10 pm with incredible fireworks. Kid-friendly Activities Near Fort Riley Like it? Pin it!
