Thailand is Planning to Give Away Thousands of Free Domestic Flights Posted on October 6, 2025December 21, 2025 Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... Thailand’s tourism industry has always felt unstoppable to me, which is why news of its recent slowdown came as a surprise. In response, the government has introduced the “Buy International, Free Thailand Domestic Flights” campaign, designed to draw visitors beyond the usual gateways of Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. The program, still waiting for approval, promises 200,000 free domestic flights for international travelers. On Amazon When It May Launch Thailand’s post-pandemic recovery depends in part on the “Buy International, Free Thailand Domestic Flights” campaign. It was slated to begin in September, but as of October 4 the launch date remains unclear. Once approved, the program will run for a few months and give tourism a lift during the shoulder season before peak travel begins. Why It Matters In 2019, almost 40 million people visited Thailand, the highest number on record. The goal for 2025 was 39 million, but the forecast has dropped to 33 million—a 16 percent decline. Thailand is still one of the most popular destinations in Asia, but most visitors stick to Bangkok, Phuket and the southern islands, or Chiang Mai in the north. Free domestic flights could spread people out by making it easier to reach places like Isaan in the northeast, the Andaman coast, or the northern highlands. On Amazon How to Plan Around It If you’re planning a trip to Thailand later this year, a free domestic flight could add real value to your itinerary. By booking your international ticket into Bangkok, you may be able to connect onward at no extra cost. That means you could experience the cultural heart of Udon Thani in the northeast, walk among the ruins of Sukhothai, or relax on the quieter beaches near Trang—destinations often overlooked by first-time visitors. Keep some flexibility in your schedule so you can take advantage of the program if it launches, and check the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s official site for updates before you finalize your plans. Current Status As I mentioned, the plan is still under Cabinet review. Nothing is final until it receives full government approval. Tourists planning to visit Thailand later this year should watch for updates to see if the program goes live. If approved, it could be one of the most traveler-friendly incentives Thailand has introduced in years. Like it.Pin it. I love sharing stories, lessons from abroad, and tips for curious travelers.
