This place is not just about spirituality; it’s where nature and peace come together. When you visit, you’ll find it’s impossible to take a bad picture – that’s how stunning it is. Seoknamsa Temple is a perfect escape from the busyness of life, and I highly recommend checking it out. I highly recommend experiencing the serenity and beauty of this remarkable place led by its inspiring community of female-only monks.

Female-only Monks at Seoknamsa Temple

Seoknamsa Temple is truly breathtaking. The community of female monks, spanning different age groups, exudes a warm and engaging presence. During my visit, our conversations covered a wide range of topics, from discussions about religion to personal anecdotes, including the story of when I shaved my own head. Among the numerous photos I captured, there’s one that holds a special place in my heart, and I’ve decided to keep it exclusively for myself—though I couldn’t resist sharing it via Kakao with a friend.

The seamless integration of traditional practices with modern technology, like using Kakao, by the monks left me amused and appreciative of this intriguing blend of ancient and contemporary elements. The experience is one I can’t help but find amusing and truly unforgettable.

Tree-lined Street

There is a small fee to visit female-only monks at Seoknamsa Temple. The fee includes a 2,000￦ parking fee and an additional 2,000 ￦ for entrance. As you stroll along a tree-lined street for approximately half a mile, the soothing sound of the river on your right and the sight of locals enjoying their lunches on the rocks below create a charming ambiance. I found myself almost wishing to join them until the tranquility was disrupted by a swarm of bugs.

Before reaching the Seoknamsa Temple fork in the road, there’s a charming gift shop and seating area with picturesque views of the river. For the most breathtaking scenery, opt for the path to the left. I highly suggest you visit for how beautiful and welcoming this temple and for the female-only monks. You don’t get this kind of opportunity every day to talk hairstyles with a monk, do you?
