Christmas in Spain Malaga to Granada Part 2

Why Missing Our Flight to Granada Made Our Christmas in Spain Even Better

Road Trip in Spain

I made the amateurish error of packing late into the night before travel and incorrectly setting the alarm for 5 p.m. instead of 5 a.m. I woke up in a panic at 6:30 for a 7:30 flight. It would cost us an additional $400 and a day of travel. We overslept for our flight. And that was the very last early morning flight I will ever book for the Peters Family. After booking another flight that night, we’re off on a road trip in Spain, starting in Malaga for Christmas.

We Overslept for Our Flight

Spain is a very popular winter destination. The weather is typically mild, and there are a ton of activities all year long. We flew into Malaga Airport (AGP) on Ryanair. Before we missed our flight, our original plan was to stay only one day in Malaga. And that’s what we did, so I don’t have a lot to say about the city except that it’s pretty.

Is Spain on your travel bucket list? Here are five reasons you should book a flight.

Our Itinerary

Our Malaga road trip in Spain itinerary for the next two weeks includes the cities of Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Gibraltar, and Marbella, and a ferry crossing to the Moroccan city of Fez.

Since it was a much longer trip than usual, we anteed up for one checked bag each. It’s expensive, 30 Euro, on Ryanair, so we don’t do it too often. We got a great deal on a diesel rental car online that also included unlimited miles. We consulted the map, programmed our GPS, and popped in one of the CDs we made for the trip.

The first thing I noticed was all the orange trees. I plucked one down and beamed at the expectation of the warm, sweet, juicy flesh. On the contrary, the Andalucian oranges are bitter. They are better suited for the local jam rather than a refreshing fruit. Nonetheless, I was happy– our Awesome Andalucían adventure had begun.
