You’re in Paris, it’s the thing to do. Then trust me, don’t waste your time climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Paris is so flat, the best view is not from the tower. The best view of Paris is everywhere else that includes the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower and the 5 Best Places to See it It’s an iconic structure with many vantage points to it. I will never forget the first time I visited Paris as a college student. And every time I go, I feel that same magic– mainly because of the Eiffel Tower. Here are my suggestions for the Eiffel Tower and the 5 Best Places to See the Eiffel Tower from above and below its’ rivets and steel. 1. Sacré-Cœur Head to the steps of Sacré-Cœur a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus located in Montmontre to see the Eiffel Tower and how it stands high above the city. Montmontre is the highest point in an otherwise flat city and offers a panoramic view of the city that includes the Eiffel Tower. The Sacré-Cœur is also your best chance to take the city in with the locals because of its a popular place for them too. 2. The Montparnasse Tower The Montparnasse Tower offers two viewing points to see the Eiffel Tower. One is on the 56th-floor observation deck and the another is on the open-air terrace. Both are prime viewpoints for Mr. Eiffel’s masterpiece and the sunset you’ll never forget. The observation deck on the 56th floor offers floor to ceiling windows. Displays help you understand what you are looking at. Enjoy a drink at the 360 Cafe or the Champagne Bar with panoramic views of the city. It’s an excellent place to inhale both simultaneously. 3. The Arch de Triomphe Because the city is so flat, my favorite view of the city is from the Arch de Triomphe. It’s only a few flights off the ground, but the fact that you have an unobstructed view of the 12 streets that converge underneath it, the Champs Elysee and the Eiffel Tower makes it a highlight of any first visit to Paris. 4. A Bateaux Mouche Take an evening cruise on the Seine. I love having more than one perspective on the tower. You may get a crook in your neck looking up. There’s something extremely magical when its all lit up at night. 5. Galeries Lafayette Paris The Galeries Lafayette is an upscale department store in the 9th arrondissement. The rooftop bar has an unobstructed view of the tower. Over the top– Galeries Lafayette was built in 1912. It’s an art nouveau masterpiece with a glass and steel dome and exquisite staircases. We made the mistake of climbing the Eiffel tower when we visited around 15 years ago. I have a real fear of heights and it is very open on the viewing levels – definitely better from the ground ! Reply
